When you’re digging holes into the cold earth in late Autumn, it seems forever to the time you will see the fruits of your labor. We’ve planted tulip bulbs in various plots through the years, and we get a couple of good years and then they vanish. Perhaps our winters here are a little too harsh, or I don’t know what the heck I’m doing (more likely).

Six months later, up the tulips rise from the warming ground. They are so colorful, beautiful, a wonderful reminder of the promise of Spring. Now stay away deer, at least until they are almost finished with their glory.
